Interview: Monika Gaber - Fitness

What were you like as a child, what were you interested in, what did you like to do?
If you ask my parents, I was very hardworking and rather shy as a child. I loved family outings the most, because we are very close as a family, which also means a lot to me. I loved animals, especially horse riding (which is what has remained now). I wasn't very sporty as a child, so I didn't imagine that my lifestyle would change so much, and I'm glad that it did. As a teenager, I started to watch my body and I didn't feel good in my own skin anymore, so I changed a lot of things, regarding nutrition, exercise... and this has become part of my everyday life. But I can also say that I am now as full of energy and willpower as I was 5 years ago.
Where does the motivation for your lifestyle come from?
As a motivation, I can say that I was just myself. When I ran out of willpower, I remembered why I was doing this, sometimes it was really hard. I wanted changes in myself and I achieved them. For which I am very happy. My lifestyle change did not only contribute to a change in my appearance, but also on a psychological and physical level.
What does your average day look like?
Hmmm… it’s hard to say that my days are similar to each other, because I like variety and not being too monotonous. Most often, my day looks like this: I wake up around 8-9 am, pack my things and go to the gym, where I do a workout. If the weather is nice, I definitely go to the mountains or a nearby hill. I prefer it with friends, but my dog Neli always accompanies me. I also like running and every time I set myself a few more kilometers.
I hate rainy weather when I have to be indoors and not out in the fresh air.
What sports do you often do? Favorite place to go? I spend most of my time in the gym, where I feel really good. But I also really like discovering hidden corners of nature where there is no hustle and bustle.
But in the last year, I have really enjoyed running.
As I said, I really like going to the mountains. I feel free there and I can let my mind wander. I often go to the nearby Lubicno hill, which has several paths leading to it, so I always choose another one.
Your plans, goals for the future?
In the future, I want to be a better version of myself every day. And go step by step towards my goal. My plans and dreams should remain hidden for now until I realize them, because things can quickly go wrong. I try to become the best version of myself and overcome the challenges I set for myself. But I can tell you the challenges I set for myself for this year. To run 2 marathons, which I think I will surpass, and to visit our highest mountain, Triglav (to become a “real” Slovenian)
What does good clothing mean to you?
It means a lot to me that when I exercise, I wear comfortable clothes that allow me to move without any obstacles or pressure.
I get really motivated when I wear new clothes. People at home tell me that I'm obsessed with sportswear. Clothes really mean a lot to me, I think I train better in nice leggings that I feel good in than in ones that don't fit me.
